Online Product Manual
The Online Manual is the heart and soul of the site.
Here our aim is to make XLDB as easy to understand as possible.
It is important to understand that configuring XLDB requires some basic level of SQL programming; however provided that you have these skills or have access to someone who does (and we can arrange this for you too) then using the online guide, perhaps with some support from our YouTube page, Blog and Forum should be all that you need use XLDB.
Your experience is important to us. If there is anything unclear in the manual or indeed any part of the website, please let us know and we will do our best to help and in most cases will be more than happy to update our content
All XLDB models need to have simple but strict Star Schema structures.
Central to the model, the Fact table must begin with the prefix “Fact_”.
The dimension tables must be prefixed with “Dim_” and contain a Primary Key that links to the Fact table which must contain a Foreign Key to each of the dimension tables.
Each of the dimension fields in the Fact table must have the exact name as the corresponding dimension table. For example, a Fact table Foreign key field named Dim_1 must correspond to a table also called Dim_1.
Measure names must be unique* and cannot be used in more than one table. For example, a Measure called “Amount” can only be used in a single table.
* Tip: Name all Fact table measures with a short name that describes the Fact table, for instance for a Fact table named Fact_Planning, name your measures “pln_Amount”, “pln_Comments” etc etc.
